Mount Vision Road is not a true trail but it’s a pleasant and scenic walk from the parking lot to the trails (Bucklin, Inverness Ridge, and Drakes View). The sides of the road are flanked with huckleberry, coyote brush, wild flowers, ceanothus, and lots of green-brown lichen covering the branches of shrubs like a fuzzy coat. The winding drive to the top of Mount Vision offers spectacular views of the surrounding land and ocean.
Secret path
Barely noticeable among the coyote brush is a small path on the right that leads a few hundred yards to a beautiful view of the ocean. On the day I visited, visibility was excellent and you could see the detailed contours of the Farallones islands. The path led to an open space perfect for a picnic or nap.
Volunteer Opportunity for Families: Native Plant Seed Collection
Help park staff in collecting native grass seed for use in park restoration and conservation projects. Open to kids age 7 and older accompanied by an adult. You’ll learn to identify native plants and learn when it’s time to collect the seeds.
